Necessary and Possibly Optimal Items in Selecting Problems

چکیده
In this paper, we consider the classical and basic optimisation problem consisting in selecting a set of p items among n with minimal costs, but where costs are ill-known or uncertain. As optimal solution such case is no longer uniquely nor well-defined, issue characterizing solutions, as well those that necessarily possibly final selection.

Necessary Conditions for Optimal Impulsive Control Problems∗
Necessary conditions of optimality, in the form of a maximum principle, are derived for a class of optimal control problems, certain of whose controls are represented by measures and whose state trajectories are functions of bounded variation. State trajectories are interpreted as robust solutions of the dynamic equations, a concept of solutions which takes account of the interaction between th...
متن کاملSelecting Sequences of Items via Submodular Maximization
Motivated by many real world applications such as recommendations in online shopping or entertainment, we consider the problem of selecting sequences of items. In this paper we introduce a novel class of utility functions over sequences of items, strictly generalizing the commonly used class of submodular set functions. We encode the sequential dependencies between items by a directed graph und...
متن کاملOptimal lot sizing in screening processes with returnable defective items
This paper is an extension of Hsu and Hsu (Int J Ind Eng Comput 3(5):939–948, 2012) aiming to determine the optimal order quantity of product batches that contain defective items with percentage nonconforming following a known probability density function. The orders are subject to 100 % screening process at a rate higher than the demand rate. Shortage is backordered, and defective items...
متن کاملSelecting optimal screening items for delirium: an application of item response theory
BACKGROUND Delirium (acute confusion), is a common, morbid, and costly complication of acute illness in older adults. Yet, researchers and clinicians lack short, efficient, and sensitive case identification tools for delirium. Though the Confusion Assessment Method (CAM) is the most widely used algorithm for delirium, the existing assessments that operationalize the CAM algorithm may be too lon...
متن کاملNecessary Optimality Conditions for Optimal Control Problems with Equilibrium Constraints
This paper introduces and studies the optimal control problem with equilibrium constraints (OCPEC). The OCPEC is an optimal control problem with a mixed state and control equilibrium constraint formulated as a complementarity constraint and it can be seen as a dynamic mathematical program with equilibrium constraints. It provides a powerful modeling paradigm for many practical problems such as ...
